Beltway Snark

Those silly Lefties, reporting anything one of their commentators thinks they’ve dug up on McCain. A commentator over at ThinkProgress though he/she had some good dirt on McCain plagiarizing a speech he made Wednesday before the Los Angeles World Affairs Council. The sleuthy commentator founds that his remarks were quite similar to those made in a 1996 speech by ret. Rear Adm. Timothy Ziemer. Even though the original ThinkProgress post states that they could find no real connection between McCain and Ziemer, they ran with it anyway.

A little further sleuthing done after the fact, along with some hep from the McCain camp, brought to light the fact that Ziemer actually copped his quotes from a speech McCain gave in 1995. At least ThinkProgress was kind enough to update their post and apologize for the mistake. That’s better than some lefty blogs out there who tried to smear McCain and got slapped down.
