Arianna Huffington Tries To Smear McCain, Fails

Ms. Huffington felt fit to share with all of us this little tidbit; McCain told her that he didn’t vote for Bush in 2000. Yeah, I’m sure you’re all surprised that McCain didn’t vote for the guy who launched what might have been the biggest smear campaign in political history against him.  I mean, the Bush camp called his adopted kid an illegitimate black baby. Not only am I not surprised that McCain didn’t vote for Bush in 2000, I’m surprised that he didn’t punch Bush in the face. Y’know, because he has that famous temper and all.

How this is supposed to hurt McCain is beyond me (not to mention most other GOPers). In fact, this helps McCain put some distance between him and Bush. It also torpedoes the whole “McSame” meme. Allow me to echo the rest of the conservative blogoshpere in my thanks to Arianna for showing that a) McCain is not Bush and b) for proving how sad the progressive blogosphere has become.

UPDATE – The McCain camp’s response is teh hotness:

Tucker Bounds, a spokesman for McCain, said “It’s not true, and I ask you to please consider the source.”

Asked why Huffington would make up her story about McCain not voting for Bush, longtime McCain aide Mark Salter — who has previously tangled with the Huffington Post — ripped into her. “Why would she make something up? Because she’s a flake and a poser and an attention-seeking diva. And that’s on the record.”
