How The Hell Did I Miss This?

Maybe it’s because I’ve stopped reading transcripts of Obama’s speeches (I feel like I recite them it verbatim now), but I missed one glaringly bad history quote from Obama. Like to hear it? Here it goes:

In defending his stated intent to meet with America’s enemies without preconditions, Sen. Obama said: “I trust the American people to understand that it is not weakness, but wisdom to talk not just to our friends, but to our enemies, like Roosevelt did, and Kennedy did, and Truman did.”

Um, what? Since when did FDR or Truman talk to their enemies? For those who don’t remember or weren’t paying attention in history, FDR is the President that adpoted the idea of unconditional surrender in WWII and Truman is the President that ordered two atomic bombs to be dropped on Japan. And no, there was no summits or talks with other countries before those decisions were made. Kennedy at least talked to Khruschev about Soviet aggression, but that ended up doing more harm than good. RealClearPolitics has a much more detailed article on Obama’s reinterpretation of history, it’s worth the read.
