McCain Gets It Right On Gitmo Ruling

Look, the conservatives and McCain can finally agree on something; the Supreme Court Gitmo ruling sucks.

“I think that it is it opens up a whole new chapter in interpretation of our constitution, that says that people who are not citizens of this country and are enemy combatants–some of them still ardently seeking to destroy the United States of America and all that we stand for and believe in–are now granted habeus corpus rights,” McCain said, refering to the 5-4 decision that found that foreign detainees have rights under the constitution to sue in civilian courts. “We will regret very much in the days and months and years ahead this decision by the United States Supreme Court.”

The presumptive GOP nominee, joined by Senators Joe Lieberman and Lindsey Graham at a press conference, said he plans to “exhaust” all legislative options to narrow the impact of the decision and will first take aim at “eliminating the frivolous suits, the complaints about diet or whatever, reading material, or whatever it is, and try to more narrowly define it.”

Listen, I don’t care you you are a left wing wuss, a right wing nut job, or somewhere in between, the idea that we now have to extend Constitutional rights to non-US citizens should appall and scare the crap out of you. In all the cases of blatant judicial activism I’ve seen, this has got to be the worst. The fact that Obama, supposedly a Constitutional lawyer, backs this decision doesn’t give me a warm fuzzy feeling about what an Obama Presidency would entail.

Obama is not fit to be the commander and chief of our military men and women after agreeing will this Gitmo Ruling that will get more of the troops killed! Shows Obama is more for terrorist than for his own country! Shame on Obama, but at least now people know a little more about him!

  • As I wrote on my blog, McCain could win the election on this issue alone. All he has to do is say that if he is elected, he will ignore this Supreme Court decision.
