I can think of a lot of things to call domestic drilling, but a hoax? Not on my list.
“This call for drilling in areas that are protected is a hoax, it’s an absolute hoax on the part of the Republicans and this administration” Pelosi said at her weekly press conference. “It’s a decoy to punt your attention away from the fact that their policies have produced $4-a-gallon gasoline.”
Um no, that would actually be your policies that have gotten us here Nancy. OK, I won’t put the blame solely on Nancy, there is 30 years worth of Democrats who have to answer for this mess.
PS – I think someone needs to tell Nancy the meaning of the word “hoax.” I don’t think it means what she thinks it means.

Well said, I agree!

Congress’s approval rating is single digits, the Dems in Congress are beholden to their left wing and the environmentalists, they obstruct drilling, and she has the onions to blame REPUBLICANS?
July 11, 2008 at 4:08 pm
As you correctly mentioned, Democrats have had 30 years to solve our energy crisis. What you didn’t mention is that Republicans have had just as much time to bring about change. It is unfair to place blame for America’s energy woes solely on the shoulders of Democrats (or the Republicans, for that matter). Besides, Pelosi probably called offshore drilling a “hoax” because it would take about a decade before we saw any oil from such a venture, and because it is unlikely to make more than a dent in oil prices, rather than because it is not an option. As for the single digit approval ratings of Congress… it is important to remember that Congress is a deliberative body, and as such, it has traditionally earned lower approval ratings than the more decisive executive branch. Since Americans are so dissatisfied with the track the country is on, it is not surprise that Congress should have such low ratings.

We would have the oil now if we had pumped 5, years ago like we wanted, or 10, 15, 20, 30… Yeah it isn’t just the Dems but they are the ones that shout the loudest about not drilling.
How many countries have well 60 miles off our coast and we don’t? Nothing will solve this overnight but 30 years or more of B.S. we have to start someplace.
July 11, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Why shouldn’t she call a hoax, a hoax? Do you really believe that high gasoline prices now are caused by our refusal to drill the hell out of every place on Earth? How do you explain the tankers full of oil, waiting to unload it?
If you don’t know what Nancy Pelosi is talking about, you clearly don’t understand the situation. Listen to her for a while. Study the issue. You can be enlightened, too.
July 11, 2008 at 8:28 pm
So the fact that developing countries are using up more and more oil has nothing to do with the whole “supply and demand thing”? The week dollar on the international market? The huge difference in local gas standards making it more costly due to refining coasts? I do pay attention.
July 11, 2008 at 9:10 pm
Nancy Pelosi’s stance on the issue is the true hoax. Additional drilling and refining capabilities in America along with a greater role for alternative energy sources are all part of the solution. Those who claim to be “enlightened” Democrats usually have tunnel vision and are unwilling to fully explore all available options.

Black Coffee you are not paying attention this is about partisan politics and you try to bring up a rational solution, bad dog no treat for you. Who cares if is just bad economic policy and propaganda as long as you can score cheep political points to get elected.
July 11, 2008 at 11:33 pm
Silly me for trying to be rational!

It’s OK we all make mistakes. I made the mistake of asking an Obama supporter about what specific policies of his she supported. Needless to say after several minutes of “Hope and Change” then some talking in tongues and something about the Messiah her head exploded – ruining my favorite Bad Brains T-shirt – I am more confused as ever. The moral of the story is never ask real questions and either stick with quick and meaningless talking points or bugger it all to hell and get a Gin n’ Tonic.

Nothing more entertaining than watching people who still believe in the 2 party system rant.
The only thing that may be more entertaining is listening to an Obama supporter try to explain how he plans to get this “change” done.
Yeah, good luck with that Barry!!

Pelosi and Reid rode shutting down the war and reducing the price of gasoline into Democrat control over both houses in ‘06. Since then, everything done by the Congress has been part of a continuing national disaster.
Republicans folded during W’s early years when the environmentalists, MSM, and Dems sued and ranted over Administration attempts to develop an energy plan. Feeble attempts at solving the energy problem made by Republicans between 1992 and 2003 were thwarted by Dems and their auxilliaries.
This energy problem has been created by Dems and their greenie handlers with media support! “Halliburton” was the liberal rant from the Maxists working to secure defeat in Iraq.
Congress is now and has been the real ENEMY of the American people for at least two years.
Time to make the ENEMY pay in November. If your Senator or Cogressman has not supported drilling everywhere, all the time; make certain they are turned out on November 4th.
We certainly need change, change the control of Congress and send BHO back to the crack houses in South Chicago.

Mike: you said “Besides, Pelosi probably called offshore drilling a “hoax” because it would take about a decade before we saw any oil from such a venture, and because it is unlikely to make more than a dent in oil prices, rather than because it is not an option. ”
I disagree. If it takes a decade before we saw any of that oil, that’s the way it is. However, if we don’t start now, but start in another year, it will be 11 years before we see the oil. In my book, 10 is better than 11.
As for not affecting oil prices: prices are determined on what the traders are willing to pay for futures contracts. Thus, psychology plays a part in their decisions. The POSSIBILITY of war in the Middle East? Then they bid up the price. A hurricane forming in the Atlantic? Again, the price goes up due to FEAR of supply disruptions. The approval of drilling in ANWR and/or in coastal areas? I suspect that the price will go DOWN shortly after the announcement, as the the traders will be afraid they will lose money if they bid too high, thus giving momentum to lower prices.
Drilling will also give less power to OPEC.

I have never read such unintelligent drivel in my life !!! When Phil Graham (Repugs adore him) slipped in the deregulations of the financials, during Republican control of Congress, he started us on the road to ruin…..Mortgage Crooks, Bank Failures, Bear Sterns, etc. plus the “dark market” oil trading…..commodities…..That is what raised the price of oil. We are paying for PAPER BARRELS, as they get rich……While a few make Billions off the public, the Country goes under. The last time the Republicans deregulated, was in 1929…but you people probably don’t know what happened then, well, the same damn thing is happening now. Wake up and see the blackmail in this off-shore drilling…….better yet, just WAKE UP to what this administration has done, is doing and plans to continue to do…….These people are evil…..

Ratface and writing and apparently not friends are they?
Hate….. more pointless yelling……. yelling some more…….. Haliburton…….
….. more…….. and more……… wait I think we have more ……………
I have a tin foil hat ……….. one more thing…………………………….

It’s only 3 hence … not ……………………………………………….

Yes 1929 the stock market crash. Caused by over inflated stock prices and large amounts of fraudulent stocks listings. That and the fact that the agriculture sector had already been in a free fall before 1929. I don’t think I would blame this on de regulation. Especially since the worlds economy was on a whole was collapsing not just the states. Further more FDR’s economic policies where nothing more then window dressing that had very little effect on the economy if not helped continue the problems. It was only the economic boom cause by the Second world War that pulled the States out of the Great Depression.

More Republican Spin……..Thank God FDR put in SS, which may keep the Enron Employees who’s pensions are gone from starving……I am not a believer that Ken Lay is dead, he is somewhere living it up….or is he in Paraguay clearing brush for Bush’s homesite when he and Cheney sneak out of the WH??? No Republican will ever take the responsibility for their bad business practices, blame the Dems. I, personally blame the
Supreme Court for putting this bunch of theives in the WH.

The American people need to scream “DRILL” loudly enough until even Pelosi hears it.
We did the same on illegals, and got the fence built, despite what the politicans wanted.
So, repeat after me, to every Congressman:
“DRILL”, “DRILL”, “DRILL – and right now, dammit!”

[...] House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California, in a statement, called the Bush plan “a hoax” that will “neither reduce gas prices nor increase energy independence.” Which has some asking, “What The Hell Is Nancy Pelosi Talking About?” [...]
July 15, 2008 at 10:08 am
Pelosi wouldn’t know a valuable asset even if it was hand delivered to her with seismic proof, a huge stack of new land leases and a farmhouse full of new millionaires dripping oil head to toe.
Just this past April the U.S. Geological Survey confirmed that there are BILLIONS of barrells of oil in the Bakken (N.D. area) and this is no hoax. I’ve been watching the principal discoverer skip back and forth to work for months. Ahhh, to be young again.
No kidding though. Even with limited access, regulations out the wazoo and more reason to drill internationally than fight the morons in Congress, we still discovered a huge, huge elephant. Imagin what we might find if we had the freedom to actually look!
This is no hoax sister dumbass. http://redgreenandblue.org/2008/04/12/billions-of-barrels-under-the-bakken-shale/
