I don’t know what kind of freak waits until Saturday morning to announce this, but Obama has picked Sen. Joe Biden as his running mate. Woo. The funny part is that contrary to Obama’s big hyped-up promise that those who signed up to get the big news via text message would be the first to know, his crew leaked the info to media outlets hours before sending out the text. Even at that, Team Obama sent the text out at 3 a.m. EST. Good job with that one guys.
As far as Biden is concerned, he’s an OK choice. Not stellar, but not crappy either. He’s older and has solid foreign policy/military cred, but has gone on record several times saying that Obama is not ready to be POTUS. Team McCain is already all over that. Overall I think there were a few more exciting candidates on the table, but I see where Obama is going with this.
And did I mention that Biden was for the Iraq War before he was against it? Then again, that could be said for a bunch of Dems.
Now it’s McCain’s turn.
UPDATE – Ed Morrissey says he got his text at 4:50 a.m., and I had forgotten about this little nugget from Biden earlier this year when he was still in the running to be the Dem nominee.
“I mean, you’ve got the first sort of mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that’s a story-book, man,” Biden said.
Exit question; is that a *gasp* racist statement from Biden? It sure would be considered racist if it came out of a Republican’s mouth…..
UPDATE #2 – My favorite commentary on Obama/Biden thus far, courtesy of VodkaPundit.
I’m jumping the gun here, but I’ll go ahead and coin the word right now…
O’Biden.
UPDATE: Change you can believe in — because it’s been in Washington since 1973 already.
UPDATE #3 – And the tearing apart of Biden begins. And it’s almost 10 a.m. EST, where the hell is Obama?
UPDATE #4 – Was the timing of the text message all part of some sort of nefarious plot designed to get a dig in at Hillary?
