And the somewhat blissful end to having to watch political speech after political speech. I only caught Cindy’s and John’s speeches last night because I didn’t really care to hear anyone else on the docket speak. I though Cindy’s intro for John was nice, the RNCC played a video highlighting her life story and her humanitarian works and her speech focused more on the same topics. Nice gal, that Cindy.
Now for McCain’s speech. Let me start by saying I’ve never been a big fan of McCain speeches, the man just doesn’t come across well scripted. That being said, I though his speech was serviceable. Of course it didn’t have the pop of Palin’s speech, the only person who could have pulled that off would be Jesus. He did a good job of putting distance between himself and the Bush/GOP establishment, saying he works for the people and not a party. He talked about his POW experience more than I’ve ever seen him discuss it before, which was pretty interesting. Here’s the full text of the speech if you’re interested in reading it, it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either. The best part of the speech was when he was interrupted by protesters and got the opportunity to go off script and bash them.
One thing I have to mention, just because it bugged the crap out of me; whoever decided on the background images for McCain’s speech needs to be punched in the head I’m sure it looked great in the arena, but at home it made him look like he was preforming in front of a greenscreen or a bluescreen. Really, do you want to give anyone that kind of invitation to make YouTube videos with all sorts of images behind him?
