And Here’s Everything Else That Happened Yesterday

Jump to Comments

Obama sucked the air out of yesterday, rendering in impossible to mention anything else except in the briefest of ways. There were other things going on yesterday though, so let’s get caught up on those.

Both Sen. Edward Kennedy and Sen. Byrd weren’t in the best of health yesterday. Kennedy had a seizure at Obama’s inaugural luncheon, which upset Byrd so much that he had to be escorted out by medical personnel too. Both men are reported to be doing fine now.

It was a pretty rough day fo the Clintons too; John Cornyn blocked Hillary’s confirmation as SoS yesterday over lingering questions about Billy’s foundation, and Bill and Hillary get the cold shoulder from the Carters. I’m sure both Bill and Hillary were glad it was a busy news day yesterday, as I didn’t hear a peep on CNN about Hillary’s confirmation issues or the snub.

In happier news, W and Laura flew home to Midland yesterday after Obama’s inauguration and were greeted by a big block party. Here are some excerpts from the speech he gave when he got home.

The Age Of Obama seems to include a lot of jabs at W taken by Obama and his team. So much for post-partisanship.

I know the hubby mentioned it yesterday, but the Dow dropped over 300 points yesterday which officially is the worst inagural drop in history. Money quote from Reuters UK (don’t expect to hear this in any US outlet);

“I think people were looking for something, new plans, new hopes,” said Joe Saluzzi, co-manager of trading at Themis Trading in Chatam, New Jersey.

“They didn’t hear something new.”

That’s about wraps up yesterday. Now we (by we I mean the MSM) get to breathlessly watch what will likely be the most boring/disappointing first 100 days ever.

UPDATE – I missed a story; apparently someone at Team Obama failed Math 101, because there are several accounts of people who had tickets (including the much-coveted purple tickets) who got shut out due to capacity being reached. Heartbroken and disappointed were the likes of Firedoglake’s Gregg Levin and TPM’s David Kurtz, the latter of which estimated the number of purple ticket holders who didn’t get in at the tens of thousands. Mind you the purple ticket holders were the ones who put in a kajillion hours of volunteer work on the Obama campaign, so needless to say they were a bunch of very unhappy campers.
