No wonder it took Fitzgerald so long to get that indictment out…he’s going all the way back to 2002 to chronicle all the crap Blago pulled.
Blagojevich, 52, was indicted on 16 felony counts, including racketeering conspiracy, wire fraud, extortion conspiracy, attempted extortion and making false statements to federal agents.
He allegedly abused his office in numerous matters to seek money, campaign contributions, and employment for himself and others, in exchange for official actions, including trying to leverage his authority to appoint a United States senator, U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald said in a statement.
Blago isn’t the only one named in the indictment, but there’s someone missing from this list:
- John Harris, his last chief of staff
- Robert Blagojevich, his brother
- Alonzo Monk, his former chief of staff
- William Cellini, Sr
- Christopher Kelly
So who’s the missing party? That would be one Tony Rezko, who is named in the indictment but not charged. That gives me a sneaking suspicion about where Fitzgerald is getting his info. If Rezko flipped Blago and everybody else on that list is screwed.
Fasten your seatbelts, this is going to be one bumpy ride.
